June 26 (Day 1)
At the end of the first day: you know some vacationers, right? They come, they jump out of the bus, take the picture and are gone again. You get the idea!
Today, after seven hours and 600-something kilometres, I realized that I could be one of those people. Somehow (and I am not very good in math) it dawned on me how many more miles we have to do in a day to reach our destination and I thought 6 weeks might actually not be enough time unlesss ... you come, you jump out of the car, you take the picture and you're gone!
We were still discussing the matter when suddenly the first technical problem appeared: my feet were getting wet. What could that be? Maybe the air condition or ... worse! What now? Driving to the campground, Stephen under the car ... the only thing I can say is: Alaska is miles away!

Comment from Stephen:
Hold on a second! ... Elgin, help me out here! What does she mean by "... that isn't enough time? ..." We'll see about that! We did the math, didn't we?

Fazit des ersten Tages:
Als wir noch in Heidelberg wohnten habe ich mich immer ueber das Verhalten der japanischen Touristen amuesiert.
-Ankommen, kurz aussteigen, Foto machen, weiterfahren.-
Ihr wisst schon was ich meine .
Heute nach ca. 7 Std. auf der Autobahn wurde mir klar, ich bin auf dem besten Weg ein japanischer Tourist zu werden. (Ahhh)  Irgendwie daemmerte es mir ploetzlich wieviele Meilen wir am Tag fahren muessen um unsere Ziele zu erreichen, und irgendwie wurde ich das Gefuehl nicht los, das das in 6 Wochen kaum zu schaffen ist. Es sei denn: ...

Noch waehrend wir darueber diskutierten (Sinn und Zweck der Reise), das erste technische Problem. Es leckt auf meine Fuesse, wahrscheinlich die Air Condition oder Schlimmeres?
Was nun? Campingplatz ansteuern, unters Auto legen und ich kann nur sagen:
Alaska ist noch weit entfernt.
